The mission of Blacksburg Primary School Media Center is to provide a library-learning environment which promotes the development of skills and attitudes that prepare students to be life-long learners in an information-rich society.

Our vision is that the students of Blacksburg Primary School will be proficient in the use of diverse information resources and be equipped with skills to access, process, and apply information to problems and decisions, thereby helping them to live successfully in a rapidly changing world. Our students will be connected learners, sharing, exploring, and evaluating information through the increasingly large number of interactive technologies. The result of learning acquired in our school will help prepare these students to live productive, successful lives into the next century.

We believe that:

* the model school media program is an integral part of the school curriculum;

* developing life-long learners in an information-rich environment is our mission;

* the media center should be fully integrated into the instruction process;

* the media specialist is a vital part of the instruction team;

* the media center should provide flexible, equal, and open access to resources and technologies;

* our students must acquire those lifelong learning skills which make them information literate.
